The Pt₃O₄ Structure

This is a simple defect superstructure of the Cesium Chloride (B2) structure.

• Prototype: CsCl
• Pearson Symbol: cI14
• Space Group: Pm(-3)m (Cartesian and lattice coordinate listings available)
• Number: 221
• Primitive Vectors:
  • A₁ = - ½ a X + ½ a Y + ½ a Z
  • A₂ = + ½ a X - ½ a Y + ½ a Z
  • A₃ = + ½ a X + ½ a Y - ½ a Z

The Pt atoms sit on the (6b) sites, while the O atoms are on (8c) sites. Putting Pt atoms on the (2a) sites will restore the CsCl crystal.

• Basis Vector:
  • B₁= ½ A₂ + ½ A₃ = ½ aX (Pt)
  • B₂= ½ A₁ + ½ A₃ = ½ aY (Pt)
  • B₃= ½ A₁ + ½ A₂ = ½ aZ (Pt)
  • B₄= ½ A₁ + ½ A₂ + ½ A₃ = + ¼ aX + ¼ aY + ¼ aZ (O)
  • B₅= ½ A₁ = - ¼ aX + ¼ aY + ¼ aZ (O)
  • B₆= ½ A₂ = + ¼ aX - ¼ aY + ¼ aZ (O)
  • B₇= ½ A₃ = + ¼ aX + ¼ aY - ¼ aZ (O)
