Yukhnovskyi Ihor Rafailovych

(1.09 1925, Kniahynyne village, Rivne region) Scientist, physicist-theorist, state, political and public figure. Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences,  Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Head of the department of Statistical Theory of Condensed Matter of the Institute for Theoretical Physics of the USSR (since 1970). Head of the Institute for Condensed Matter Physics of NAS of Ukraine (since 1990). 1990-1998 – Head of the Western Research Centre of NAS of Ukraine. Has established Lviv Research School of Statistical Physics. Has developed methods of theoretical studies of interacting particles systems: the method of collective variables and the displacement method; theory of liquids and electrolyte solutions, metals and alloys, disordered systems, phase transitions and critical phenomena; mathematical methods in economy and society, the problems of energy, problems of security issues of the object “Ukryttia” at the Chornobyl nuclear power plant, the theory of heterogeneous catalysis. The author of about 500 scientific papers. Member of the parliament (I–IV convocations). Head of the Institute for Condensed Matter Physics of NAS of Ukraine, Honorary Doctor of Bogolyubov Institute for Theoretical Physics of NAS of Ukraine, Doctor Honoris Causa of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv. M. M. Krylov award of AS of URSR. Orders: “Badge of Honour” (1975), Labour Red Banner (1985), World War First Class Order (1985). Award of the President of Ukraine (1995), First Class Order “For Merit” (2000), Yaroslav the Wise Fifth Class Order (2002), Hero of Ukraine and Commander of the Order of the State (2005).
