The informative–theoretical analysis is applied in order to study the nanosecond gain dynamics in a short–pulse KrF laser. The analytical exploration describes the effect of KrF vibrational relaxation on the laser characteristics. Simple formulas are obtained for the internal efficiency of the laser–level production and the rate of the gain recovery. Though several low vibrational levels of KrF(B) contribute to the light amplification, the energy transfer processes between these levels are found not to affect the laser characteristics noticeably.
