The feasibilities of terbium as a luminescence sensitiser for the enhancement of the conversion efficiency of vacuum-ultraviolet (VUV) radiation into visible light was investigated. The luminescence properties of K$_{3}$Tb(PO$_{4}$)$_{2}$ and Ba$_{3}$Tb(PO$_{4}$)$_{3}$ activated by Eu$^{3+}$ and SrAl$_{12}$O$_{19}$ co-doped with Mn$^{2+}$ and Tb$^{3+}$ where measured at the excitation of over 120-300 nm wavelength range. It is shown that the Tb$^{3+}$ ions exhibiting a strong absorption band in the VUV can provide an efficient sensitisation of Eu$^{3+}$ and Mn$^{2+}$ emission at the excitation in this spectral range giving rise to intense red and green luminescence, respectively.
