The paper contains a review of some principal methods to introduce fractional (intermediate) statistics of identical particles beyond traditional Bose-Einstein and Fermi-Dirac distributions. Anyons and $q$-deformed algebras of creation-annihilation operators are considered as quantum mechanical generalizations. The statistical mechanics approach is analyzed in detail, namely Gentile statistics, Haldane-Wu statistics, and Polychronakos statistics. Nonextensive statistics is described separately. Some relations between different types of fractional statistics are discussed.
