The GAMMA-400 space observatory scheduled to be launched in 2018 by the Russian Space Agency is one of the most interesting forthcoming projects working in the MeV-TeV range. In this paper, we provide a detailed overview of possible scientific opportunities for GAMMA-400, especially concentrating on several topics to which Ukrainian scientific groups can add significant value. These topics include: indirect search of dark matter signatures, determination of parameters of cosmological magnetic fields and studies of a wide class of astrophysical objects such as supernova remnants, active galactic nuclei, gamma-ray bursts and transient gamma-ray sources.
