The electronic structure of bulk and biaxially deformed Ge$_{1 - x}$Si$_{x}$, Ge$_{1 - x}$Sn$_{x}$, Si$_{1 - x}$Sn$_{x}$, Si$_{1 - x}$C$_{x }$ solid substitutional solutions is calculated using the local model pseudopotential method as well as compositional and positional disorder. The influence of different types of disorder and deformations on the behaviour of dielectric function is explained having been studied experimentally.
