The two-body Dirac equation with the general local potential is reduced to a pair of ordinary second-order differential equations for radial components of the wave function. The class of special potentials is found for which the equation possesses exact solutions. For other cases the pseudo-perturbative $1/j$-expansion method is proposed. Several models of light mesons are constructed and exact and approximate energy spectra are calculated. They are compared with experimental data.
